RIP Barbaro

I just read that Barbaro had to be euthanized 10 months after his injury at the Preakness (read about it here). Darn it I'm tearing up - I thought he was going to make it as the last I heard he was doing quite well.

Aw the poor horsie. :( I thought if they broke their legs they shot them straightaway to stop them suffering?

Well they tried to heal him since if he recovered somewhat he could possibly be used as a stud for high fees (I'm sure they also loved him and felt very guilty about racing him).
