E-Mails of the Departed

I came across an interesting article called What Happens to Your Emails When You Die? discussing what you should do with your internet mailboxes (and I assume ljs and websites) in event of your death (a morbid subject and not much thought about currently).

Oh my goodness, and all the websites and eljays and stuff. Will they just float about on here forever and ever? ::clickys link::

Well the late Nan Dibble's lj is still up and untouched. I just hope it can remain like that as the last bit of her last book isn't up at "Soulful Spike". Also wouldn't it be creepy if some of the WIPs we complain about are in that state because the authors passed on?

Buh-loody hell Shak, I've got the creeps now! Yes, it nice that there's a legacy of sorts left for us to remember peeps by.

I tried to contact someone at "Soulful Spike" about a possible tribute to ND and that they should post that last chapter but I never heard back from them. I think I'll save it somewhere just in case the lj vanishes (there must be some info somewhere re how long one will stay up without further activity).

This is why I print all our faves. Takes up an entire room virtually, but it's sortov the 'home office' anyways so that's alright. Shelves full lol. Our Deb did say once that she thought printing everything was a waste of time, space, ink and effort but I told her the internets is so ephemeral (did I make up that word?) I meantersay look at 'Dead Sexy!' I loved that site. Wish I'd saved all the piccies. Did save a fair few. :)

Shame they didn't get back in touch with you. I'd save it to disc if I were you Shak.

Well as I don't have my own computer at the moment I think I'll just save it at my g-mail account where I've saved several others like Laikokae's "What Makes Us" as there was a rumor she was taking down her stuff.

Its scary that even these things when you die can become someone else's headache. I think that if you can provide a death certificate they should close your accounts and let your executor or family handle these things with no questions asked.
Grrr you get it while your here with identity theft and when you die it gets worse. Thank God that you don't have to be here to deal with it.

I do think leaving all your pass code in your will or at lease in documentation with instructions of what to do when your gone is a good idea.

You have to tell someone what mailbox addys and websites and photobucket sites (along with the passwords) are yours otherwise how will they know and if you use a nom de courriel how will the webmasters know who you really are? All this is so new and I doubt many people have really given this subject much thought.
