Well it appears that Cecilia Fire Thunder has been suspended as tribal President of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and that they will now ban all abortions on the South Dakota reservation (read about it here).
There's a petition in support of her that you can sign here.
We're on the slippery slope of losing all rights to our own bodies - The Handmaid's Tale may one day be considered non-fiction.

On another gloomy note I read in today's New York Times how Washington wants Internet companies to keep records of customers' web-surfing activities ostensibly for the purpose of catching pedophiles and terrorists - yeah right. Watch out - Big Brother is coming.

There are days I do wonder if I should be looking for a good woman to marry up in Canada. Canadian citizenship is becoming mighty attractive. Then again, I could just become a big famous author and move to Ireland where artists and authors don't pay taxes because they're respected. Or I could just be stuck here. *sigh*

I fear our right-wing insnity is spreading north. Some commenter in another lj noted that the government of Canada wants to "re-examine" the legislation for same-sex marriages, with the intent to repeal it (http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20060602/harper_samesexvote_060602/20060602?hub=TopStories).
I fear we'll just have to establish our own Herland somewhere
