The 4-day, record-breaking heatwave has finally broken. Meanwhile Washington state is getting a record-breaking 10" of snow. The weather this spring has been beyond bizarre - could it be because the sun has no sunspots? In other science news the IAU has decided to call Pluto and Eris "plutoids" but Ceres will still be considered a dwarf planet because because it's not in the Kuiper Belt but in the asteroid belt. Also doctors performing a hysterectomy were surprised that they were able to see an oocyte leave the ovary. Read more here.
It was so lovely this morning that I ran some errands and on the way home I passed the Diamond District. Unlike years ago, there was nothing I really coveted now that I have a rather nice collection of CZ jewelry that to the untrained eye looks like the real thing. I then passed Saks Fifth Avenue where a photo shoot was taking place. The model looked gorgeous from the front but in the back her outfit was lavishly pinned with safety pins. If a perfect-sized model can't fit easily into clothes, what hope is there for the rest of us? Now that we're finally getting hot weather my appetite is once again diminishing. I'll see what happens as I'm not purposefully trying to lose more weight.

Date: 2008-06-12 11:41 am (UTC)I guess the doctors never realized that while doing surgery on a person before they pluck out the offending organ it is still in there doing it job like it is supposed to. Although it was a very interesting thing to see and read about. We just don't understand how the body does its thing. Like I told my OBGYN when he was showing me the polyp her removed from my cervix during a routine exam... I can't see the anatomy inside my body and I would like to keep it that way as long as possible. I just let my body do its thing and try to keep it healthy.
I know what you mean about losing your appetite in the hot weather as we had mid 90 degree temps here this week and all I wanted was cold fresh fruit and veggies. I just lost my appetite completely for meat. I have lost almost 20ls though since moving into our new apt since I have to walk up to a third floor daily. LOL
