BtVS Fan Alert
Nov. 19th, 2008 02:37 pmJust wanted to remind folks that Nicholas Brendon returns to "Criminal Minds" tonight at 9 pm as Kevin Lynch. I can only hope he's not there to be killed off. I like him and Garcia.
I heard that Alyson Hannigan is pregnant - I might tune in to "HIMYM" one day to see what a pregnant Willow might have looked like. It's sort of sad that Alexis Denisoff doesn't seem to be doing much aside from a few guest appearances on "HIMYM". Of course if he becomes a stay-at-home dad that will be one lucky baby.

Website Goings On
Nov. 18th, 2008 12:23 amA friend alerted me that something weird was going on at that wonderful Spike archive All About Spike - when we attempt to go there, we get a pop-up that says:
A username and password are being requested by http://www.allaboutspike.com. The site says: "Super Vegan"
Does anyone know anything about this? Lazuli's "Tales from the Attic" was recently hacked (BTW it's now back in play) so was AAS put under password protection to protect it or is something else going on? How does one get the necessary password? I'm so often the last to know so did I miss a sign up or something?
ETA: It's back up. I'm relieved but I still don't know why it was inaccessible for at least a day or two. I guess I'm still paranoid from the last series of attacks on BtVS slash sites.

Regrets...I've Had a Few
Jul. 24th, 2008 11:04 amHey check this out - I've inspired Regrets...I've Had a Few, one of
spikendru's contributions to
summer_of_giles. It's a wonderful character study of Giles as she tries to make sense of his actions in S6 and the previous seasons and I think she accomplishes that beautifully (and I'd say so even if I hadn't given her the prompt *g*).

Nicholas Brendon
Mar. 25th, 2008 07:19 pmI just read that Nicholas Brendon will be back for 2 more episodes on "Criminal Minds" starting next week and we'll get to see a bit more of him than we usually do if you know what I mean ;) I liked his character as a match for Rossi and it will be interesting to see how it's developed since the introductory ep.
BtVS Reunion Recording

Riffing on the Rift
Mar. 12th, 2008 02:50 pmThe recent appearance of James Marsters on "Torchwood" caused me to take a closer look at "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "TW". It seems to me that TW is the science fiction version of BtVS. Both series have characters who die and return to life. Both series have main characters who are more than human and who have an odd assortment of companions. In both shows strange looking beings emerge through portals and rifts. It actually makes sense that in times past whenever such a being was seen that it would be assumed to be a demon though in fact they might more rightly be called aliens. Is there a difference between aliens and demons or is it just a matter of semantics?
In both verses there exists strange technology. In BtVS we saw the power of the Glove of Myhnegon and in TW there are a couple of so-called resurrection gloves - at least that's what the team uses them for. Both 'verses have creepy little girls - the one in the White Room (if you count AtS *g*) and the one in the TW episode "Dead Man Walking" who also reads tarot cards like Drusilla.
I can just picture the Council of Watchers, upon hearing that a new Hellmouth had opened in Cardiff, go scurrying to off there only to find the Torchwood Institute had already staked a claim to it under royal fiat. If they protested Queen Victoria would undoubtedly have said that she was not amused and would only trust the anomoly to her own people.
And while I'm playing with this, could Captain Jack Harkness be the Immortal who, at some point, could joke that Captain John Hart resembled Spike (or vice versa)? (Or how about the Immortal being Johann Van Der Zee aka John Amsterdam who runs around Rome when he's not in NYC?)
One more thing: last night I was channel-hopping and I caught the scene where Will Ferrell's character breaks his leg in "The Producers" which I've never watched before. I decided to stay for the play opening and who did I see belting out "Springtime for Hitler" but a very blond John Barrowman. I had no idea he was in it. If anyone out there has seen it - is he in any earlier scenes?
Buffy is Bi
Mar. 5th, 2008 07:00 pmI read this yesterday that in the latest issue of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" it is revealed that she's having a liaison with Satsu, a fellow Slayer. Whether or not the Season 8 comic books are to be considered canon, it does bring up the possibility that Buffy may be bi-sexual. This is big enough news to warrant an article in the gray lady of journalism otherwise known as The New York Times (read about it here). I wonder if SMG knows about this latest character development.
Joss Whedon
Aug. 9th, 2007 07:34 pmI've come across an interview with Joss Whedon by something called The A.V. Club and The Joss Report, an amusing and interesting tale by Suzanne Brockman, one of the winners of a dinner with Joss, telling of her encounter with The Amazing-One-and-Only Joss Whedon, Master Storyteller and Creator of Greatness.. She comes across as a wonderful person and her writing is warm and funny - I'm actually tempted to go out and find one of her books for she's a writer too (so little time, too many books *sigh*).
I was googling something when I came across this title Xander in the Lost Universe (one of the reasons I love googling - you never know what you'll find). It was a paperback written by John Peel and based on something by Gene Roddenberry - I swear they must be going through every scrap of paper that man left behind in order to find something saleable. Now as Rodddenberry died long before our Xander was a gleam in Joss' eye the book has nothing to do with the BtVS'verse but wouldn't it make a neat title for an interesting fic?
A Different Chosen
Apr. 1st, 2007 08:18 pmI have a little sekrit BtVS-oriented project I'm working on and so I was re-reading my copy of Slayer by Keith Topping. I came across a mention of an alternate yet supposedly authentic script of "Chosen" that had been posted on the Internet. I googled and found it here. Does everyone but me know that there was one? Anyway there are several differences between it and the final version. Among the differences is a greater explanation of the First Evil (ultimately it wants to become flesh). There's also a smidgen of Dawn and Spike interaction and a bit of payoff of the whole ghostly Joyce visit in "Conversations with Dead People" and in the end, it is Xander, not Anya, who dies. One day when I have enough time I'd like to compare it line for line with the aired version. If this is indeed genuine the changes offer an interesting bit of insight into the workings of ME
It also occured to me that according to canon there is a whole hierarchy of beings out there beyond our ken. Canon has given us the Powers That Be, Wolf, Ram & Hart, Jasmine, the First Evil and Glory the Hellgod (and the other two in the triumverite). How do they rank against each other?

Why Buffy?
Mar. 10th, 2007 10:09 pmI've always wondered why Joyce named her daughter Buffy not Muffy or Cindy Lou or something else. In all my years of fanfic reading I never saw this question addressed so I've decided to try to answer it and I've come up with this scenario: Joyce and her sister Arlene (I'm inclined to think that the Aunt Darlene in "Pangs" was a mispronunciation) were orphans raised by an Uncle Bill. They grew up watching Family Affair and saw themselves as having a sort of FA life and swore they would name their kids after the characters.
Joyce met Hank in her freshman year at college while studying art history and they were soon inseperable. He was a year or so older and when he graduated they married and she became pregnant a short while later never finishing college. By that time Arlene was also married and had a daughter named Cissy. Joyce then gave birth to a girl she named Buffy and a short time later Arlene's second daughter was born and named Celia. A few years passed and Arlene gave birth to a son named Jody. After Celia's death at age 8 Arlene and her family moved to Illinois. Anyway this is my story and I'm sticking to it - anyone have a better idea?
Here is a set of Dawn-centric spoilers from the new comic book. She's attending Berkeley (the matchmaker in me wonders if she would run across Connor) and for some reason she's 60 feet tall (hopefully she wouldn't run across him and squish him while she's 60 feet tall *g*). I wonder how long Joss has been thinking about doing something like this - it's probably something that couldn't have been done easily on TV.
I was over at Ain't It Cool News and they had an item on the new Buffy comic book series. The most important news IMO is that Buffy was NEVER involved with the Immortal - the blonde girl Angel and Spike glimpsed in Rome was a decoy (I'm sure the smoky, crowded bar also made it impossible for them to scent it wasn't her). Also Anya is back in some form, Xander now leads slayer command central in Scotland and the US government believes Buffy was responsible for the destruction of Sunnydale and so has labeled her army of slayers a terrorist group!
Entertainment Weekly has an interview with Joss Whedon on his S8 comic book series. Apparently he "had once discussed the idea of a spin-off TV series unofficially titled Slayer School, and he says the comic will include some of those ideas. 'There will be some new slayers that you'll meet, and by the second issue, you'll find out there are different camps across the world being run by various characters that fans will know. The comic focuses a lot on this new generation of slayers — the problems they will face, and the problems they will cause.''' Since the rights to Angel & Spike are owned by another company he will use them sparingly and won't answer happened after NFA :(

JM/Spike on YouTube
Oct. 15th, 2006 01:24 pmAfter I watched the Kotex Classic on YouTube, I went trawling for James Marsters/Spike related stuff and among all the hundreds of vids I liked these:
Spike - Opening Credits - what if Spike had his own show?
Spike the Movie Trailer - oh wouldn't that be wonderful?
James teases Nick - boy does he give Nick THE Look
Spike/Xander (I Hate Everything About You)
Where is My Boy? - S/X
Please Mr Marsters - lovely fan song for James
Also found some JM appearances that I missed:
James on Rove Live 2004
James Marsters and Anthony Stewart Head on Rove Live
James Marsters Performing "It's Nothing"
James Marsters on the Sharon Osborne Show
James on the Hollywood Squares
ETA: found a vid with selection from James' Civilized Man and Addicted to James

BtVS Stuff
Jul. 19th, 2006 10:37 amHere's a look at the cover of the new Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic. According to the article the Slayers are organized, an old enemy will resurface and Dawn starts "experiencing serious growing pains" (whatever that means). I won't buy it but I might take a peek inside if I come across it - hopefully someone online will summarize it. Since it's written by Joss Whedon himself it might be considered canon.
