Well since Mitt Romney is still a strong contender amongst the Rethuglicans (*g*) I thought I'd check out exactly what he supposedly believes in at The Skeptics Annotated Book of Mormon. I know it's not PC to comment on someone's religious beliefs but if the Mormons truly believe all that it just proves David Hannum's adage that "there's a sucker born every minute". I certainly don't want a president who believes that Native Americans are descended from Hebrew immigrants especially since geneticists have performed DNA tests and shown that native Americans share a common ancestry with people in Siberia. There's even more things in the BOM that strain credulity and if Romney actually manages to become president I guess we're all suckers. Also if Hilary becomes the Democratic nominee they may do their utmost to see that she loses as they believe "When women are allowed to rule, everything goes to hell in a hand basket." (2 Nephi 13:12) :(
A Bit of Bible Bashing
Jul. 12th, 2006 05:23 pmSpent the day roaming the internet and came across two great posts.
One is
baylor_w's amusing commentary on The Ten Commandments; the other I found through that post. It's an essay on The Other People who apparently do not suffer from Original Sin as they are not descended from Adam and Eve. Both essays are amusing and thought-provoking.

Grr Argh!!!
Mar. 12th, 2006 02:52 pmThey're going to establish a sturch in Missouri!! Thanks to
tabaqui I just discovered that Missouri legislators seek to make Christianity the state religion believing the separation of church and state applies only to the Federal government. Many years ago I read a book by Robert Heinlein (considered by many to be the dean of SF writers of the 20th century) called If This Goes On which is set in the future, telling the story of a band of fighters rebelling against the theocracy that was America. I remember thinking how absurd the premise was but now I am not so sure *shivers*
I'm currently reading a book called Stealing Jesus: How Fundamentalism Betrays Christianity by Bruce Bawer which tells how what he calls the Church of Law, the premillennialists that make up the Christian right, actually believe in the inerrancy of the bible and believe that theirs is the only version of true Christianity. They await the time when Jesus will return, lifting the faithful in the rapture and letting the rest of us non-believers burn in hell. The book was written in 1997 and it's gotten so much worse now that they are infiltrating the government--these people are scary.
When you read about what the fundamentalists want, be they Xtians, Jews or Moslems, it often boils down to control of women and their sexuality. As a woman and a non-Christian (don't know exactly what I am--still seeking) these are frightening times as both the Christian right and the Moslem extremists seek to make their religion the dominant one worldwide. To learn about the Moslem side go see Annaqed (the Critic) to read what moderates think of their fundamentalists.

Both Carl Kolchak and Barney Fife aka Darren McGavin and Don Knotts have passed away. RIP.
I've come across a lovely Spike/Fred post-NFA fic called The Ashcraft Series by
sockmonkeyhere. There are 2 complete stories with a third one just beginning. The author has come up with some very original notions. I rarely read het but if I do it's one where Spike finds happiness with Fred or Tara (unless it's by
nandibble *g*).
A friend passed this "You May Be a [Christian] Fundamentalist" questionnaire from the Freethinkers on to me. It's ( here )
