Animals & Stuff
Feb. 15th, 2006 05:22 pmMy friend made this comment on Rufus aka Ch. Rocky Top's Sundance Kid, the colored bull terrier who won the 130th annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show last night (here). She said that "Rufus looks like his head was formed in a bottle, the way that you can form squash if you place them in a container when they're small & they grow to the shape of the container." Lol. The things we do to to our best friend *sigh*.
She also told me about this website for The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee "that has many rescued zoo & circus elephants [now} living in a very large area, with woods & fields & ponds. They have a lot of dogs & cats that roam around among the elephants, and one of the dogs is the best friend of one of the elephants. And another elephant carries a large tire around with her as a security blanket." You can watch them on livecam--sort of like peeking in on a pachyderm soap opera. I read that the Bronx Zoo will close its elephant exhibit if one or two of its three elephnts die. Maybe they'll send the survivor(s) to live out its/their days in relative freedom there.
If anyone out there is interested in volcanoes there's the Alaska Volcano Observatory that let's you find out what's happening with Augustine, the volcano that's erupting in the Cook Inlet there. I find what's available on the internet so absolutely fascinating.
