I usually wear pants but on hot humid summer days I like to wear long skirts. I've been seeing these skirts I like but being 5'2" I had trouble finding one the right length. Many were too short and "the whole world's your gynecologist" (Ab Fab) or too long (why actresses like those sweeping trains I'll never know - they must get filthy). Yesterday I finally found one at a sidewalk vendor. It's mid-calf and NYC black (natch) with an uneven hemline that swirls so nicely as I walk down the street. Though we do have K-Mart, Old Navy and other inexpensive stores, I find I buy most of my clothes from catalogs, flea markets and the street fairs we get in the spring, summer and fall. Due to the exhorbitant rents (real estate is so expensive) there's often a hefty mark-up in many stores. I once bought a pair of earrings in a flea market for $8 then saw the exact same pair in a store on Madison Ave selling for $58 which the saleslady claimed were on sale!!

I read in yesterday's NY Times that Saks will retain its petite department. I'll probably never buy anything there but it's nice to think that if I could afford it there'd be some things that would fit me.

WTH?

Last night I was watching "Mystery" on PBS. It was an episode of Agatha Christie's Miss Marple called "By the Pricking of My Thumbs" which was a crossover with Tommy and Tuppence Beresford. I didn't remember reading such a story so today I googled and found that BtPoMT was a T&TB novel that had been turned into a Miss Marple episode by sending Tommy away on a mission and replacing him with Miss Marple. Have they run out of Marple stories to film so they had to appropriate a T&TB story? Tommy was played by Anthony Andrews and I didn't recognize him - has it really been 32 years since I first set eyes on him in "The Pallisers"?
I must say I consider Joan Hickson's interpretation to be the definitve one as Geraldine McEwan is listing toward Margaret Rutherford's version and last week's "Sleeping Murder" veered considerably from the book. My all-time favorite episode was Hickson's "Nemesis" where she has a glorious confrontation with the wonderful Margaret Tyzack. Her version of "Sleeping Murder" was also rather good.

A scary thought - fifty years from now will they re-make BtVS with a new cast?

HAPPY LITHA (the first day of summer) to all - is Yule (the first day of winter) being celebrated in the Southern Hemisphere (inquiring minds want to know)?

I took the advice of [profile] sexymermaid and made a shakatany account at Greatest Journal just in case the teenyboppers take over LJ completely. The nice thing is that I get 2000 free icons - [personal profile] lit_gal here I come.

This is for [profile] belleimani *grin*: There's this wonderful story about Belle who called 911 to save her friend who was in a diabetic coma - the catch is that Belle is a beagle!! Read about it here.

My subject title can be found here. It's a list of wonderful fictional expletives at Wikipedia. Check them out.

On a little more serious note I found these two links for people interested in English grammer and language: Language Log and Eggcorns

And last of all if anyone needs a MozillaFirefox Cheatsheet go here.
