I am reading the scariest, most horrific book ever and unfortunately it's true. It's The Hundred-Year Lie: How Food and Medicine are Destroying Your Health by Randall Fitzgerald. We, and our descendents, are being sacrificed on the alter of Mammon by the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. We are dwelling in an environment full of synthetic compounds that have never existed before in nature - spewed out without really knowing if they are harmless and without knowing how they'll react with each other. These chemicals and compounds may be contributing factors to the increasing rate of cancers, autism, diabetes, attention disorders and other diseases. They are everywhere: in the atmosphere, the water, the soil and our food.

We can't even trust our government to protect us. These industries' lobbyists and those of the corporate giants of food processing are having a great deal of influence and currently are trying to redefine organic labelling to include 38 synthetic substances, genetic engineering, irradiation and the use of toxic sewage sludge in farming! So far the outcry has thankfully prevented this but for how long?

It all makes me want to run somewhere and drink nothing but distilled water and food I'd raise myself but that's not practical and there's really no where to run - even the people of the remote arctic are among the most contaminated people on Earth. We're doing a lot more damage to our world and ourselves than paving paradise and putting up parking lots *sigh*
