Nov. 23rd, 2006 10:18 pmWent to a restaurant with my friend Marjorie for Thanksgiving dinner #1 (I'm having another one on Friday). Since I'll be having turkey tomorrow I decided to order duck in remembrance of my childhood Thanksgiving dinners - usually there were only the 3 of us and turkey was a foreign food to my European-born parents. Afterwards we went to see "Marie Antoinette". It was glorious to view - ahh Versailles the magnificent. The movie itself was disconcerting with a medley of accents, an indistinguishable supporting cast who tended to look alike and often incomprehensibly garbled dialog. However it did convey 18th century court life - boy was it full of meaningless and tedious ceremony. Imagine having to strip in front of everyone and having a crowd watching you give birth. The film might have had a bit more drama if Sofia Coppola had depicted at the end the return of Count Axel Fersen and the flight of the royal family with him driving the coach (they were caught at Varennes). I don't feel I wasted my time and money but I can't say I really loved it.
