I recall that there's some sort of back story with Goren's mom being in a hospital or sanitorium so maybe, whatever it is, runs in the family and Goren has it to a lesser degree allowing him to function so well in the real world. I think it would actually be nice if eventually they said that it was a form of Aspergers, revealing to the general public that it's not a something to be afraid of.
