I just came across this amusing vid of little Knut the Polar Bear. This is the same hand-raised polar bear cub of which (so-called) animal rights activist Frank Albrecht said: "Feeding by hand is not species-appropriate but a gross violation of animal protection laws"  and "The zoo must kill the bear." This cub was born in a zoo - he will never be free not would he be the same as a wild bear whether raised by humans or his zoo-kept mother. Sometimes you can take a belief too far.

Apparently this might be a fashion in other zoos as "Albrecht cited a similar case of a baby sloth bear that was abandoned by its mother last December in the Leipzig city zoo and killed by lethal injection, rather than being kept alive by humans." It just makes me so mad.

It's not as if they found this rejected cub in the wild. Knut was born in the zoo - he will never live a "natural" life in the wild and life in a zoo is artifical for all the polar bears.
It reminds me of that old saying from the Viet Nam war "We had to destroy the village in order to save it." Albrecht's take is that we must kill the bears in order to save them :(

I totally agree with you. The bear was born in a zoo where they would feed and provide its shelter and food, it would never know the wild or have to actually fend for itself. Who does it hurt if its being raised by hand feeding since its mother abandoned it and shunned it. I know it would have died in the wild but its not in the wild its in captivity. Who the Hell do they think they are fooling by being such morons about this poor little cute cub. I would think they would understand saving it and wanting to preserve its life being animal lovers and for the kindness of animals. GRRRRRR!!!
