Many Whimsies
Jan. 30th, 2007 01:58 pmLast night I watched "Heroes" (George Takei didn't show up until the end but but what an entrance) and as "Claude" the invisible man explained that he taught others, BtVS fan that I am immediately flashed to the last scene in "Out of Sight, Out of Mind" S1.11 where Marcie Ross, the invisible girl is in a class with others like her. If anyone wanted to do a crossover story there's a good place to start.
I read an article in Sunday's New York Times Magazine that came to the conclusion that the best thing to eat to stay healthy and maintain a good weight is FOOD *g* (the real deal). What it means is that the processed foodstuff that has crept into our diets may not be good for us even though it may be low-sugar or low-carb or low-fat and fortified with umpteen vitamins. As I grow older and feel more responsible for how well I age and how healthy I'll be I've tried to avoid as much fast food and processed food as possible which isn't that easy given that I'm a busy city-dweller but at least I'm aware of what I should be eating in an ideal world.
Read an article in "New Scientist" that posits that "monthly mood swings experienced by many women may serve an evolutionary purpose, researchers say, by helping to get them pregnant." Since nowadays most of us don't want to become pregnant if this is correct it's pretty useless and annoying sort of like the appendix.

Last Monday was the 34th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. In Sunday's New York Times magazine there was an article titled "Is There a Post-Abortion Syndrome?" which is now a popular argument for reversing RvW. The best article I came across was Jessica Valenti's A Roe Resolution: Trust Women which asks why are we not trusted to be the best judge of what is the right thing to do for ourselves and our families? If RvW is overturned it won't end abortions it will simply end safe abortions. Now a Japanese minister Hakuo Yanagisawa calls women "birth-giving machines". Is that really all we are considered to be?
A dog sled race across the Pyrenees was cancelled due to lack of snow. And Dubya still insists there's no global warming.
CBS has picked up 2 new series - one about zombies and the other is "Twilight," a drama about a vampire/private eye who's dealing with the fallout from being immortal, his foes in the vampire world and a budding love for a mortal. Joel Silver is exec producing via Warner Bros. TV. Trevor Munson ("Lone Star State of Mind") and Ron Koslow ("Beauty and the Beast") wrote the script and will exec produce. Now wouldn't it be neat if our James Marsters would be considered (though he might not want to be type-cast *g*)?
