Last Day of Summer
Sep. 22nd, 2007 03:29 pm Ever since I reached my adult height of 5' 2", my weight has fluctuated about 10 pounds over the course of a year. When the weather becomes cooler my body seems to want to eat more to put on that extra layer of blubber for the winter. Plus there are all those dangerous holidays like Halloween with all that leftover candy, Thanksgiving (I had 2 dinners last year), Xmas/Channukah, New Year's and my birthday bash. It then levels off and when it starts becoming warmer I lose my appetite and eat less, losing the weight I've gained over the winter. I have never dieted, never counted calories or points - it's just my body not being as hungry in hot weather. All this with walking as my only exercise. I think I have a nice metabolic level so I can eat what I like as long as I watch the portion-size unlike my father who truly could eat whatever and how much he liked and never gained weight (I take after my mother). I also try to eat real food, not highly-processed food stuff full of polysyllabic ingredients or fast food.
Since becoming an adult my weight range has been somewhere between 120 -135 lbs. This winter I was a bit more watchful and reached only 127 lbs. Now at the end of summer I'm down to 118 (including a 2 pound gain when I was in Fargo). All my size 8 jeans fit comfortably except for my 20-year old Gloria Vanderbilt non-stretch jeans - I think it's so true that today's size 8 is yesteryear's size 6. I'll never be sylph-like as I'm top heavy (the women in my family are like inverted pears *sigh*). Now on the last day of summer I wonder how much I'll regain with the cold weather is on its way.
