Moonlight Sucks
Sep. 29th, 2007 07:05 pmAs you might have guessed I like vampires *g* I was so inclined to like the new show "Moonlight" which premiered last night but I'm sorry to report that it's not very good. Our hero Mick St. John is a sixty-year old vampire detective (doesn't that sound a bit like Angel or Nick Knight of "Forever Knight"). In order to differentiate their hero from other vampires, the creators of "Moonlight" enable theirs to walk around in daytime albeit they have remain in the shade; they can only be killed by fire or decapitation (shades of "Highlander") and garlic, crosses, and holy water have no effect on them. St. John also drinks bagged blood and for some reason sleeps in a freezer?! The show was full of helicopter shots of LA which reminded me of "Forever Knight" and "Without a Trace" and since he can't turn into a bat has no real purpose except the creators apparently think it's neat. The main, and all too obvious, suspect was played by Rudolf Martin (Dracula on "BtVS"). Alex O'Loughlin is a chubby-cheeked and bland actor who is unconvincing as a man who possibly fought in WW II. He certainly does not make my heart beat faster like James Marsters, Mark Frankel, Michael Nouri or Louis Jourdan who have also played vampires). In general the cast's acting was often so bad that even I could see it. Of course this is the first ep and I've heard there have been some behind-the-scenes shakeups so it may improve and actually intrigue me one day...if it lasts long enough.
