If I was being tortured by Angelus to reveal my favorite S/X fic, I would have to name "Reconstruction", "Restoration" and "Reunification" by
wordsmithslash
(http://www.angelfire.com/darkside/wordsmith) as they make up one long post-"The Gift" story. The first story begins soon after Buffy's death and is told from Xander's POV. The second covers much the same territory but is told from Spike's POV. I don't think I've ever come across a similar bit of writing in fanfic. The third story is told from several POVs and deals with Wordsmith's version of the return of Buffy. I particularly like Lindsey's observations on the relationship between Spike and his "minions" and getting it all wrong. The survivors of "The Gift" band together to protect and nurture Dawn. The characterizations and humor are lovely and our 2 bois come together as equals. Slightly angsty but a great read as Xander steps up to the plate and becomes General Harris, once more leading the Children of the Hellmouth against a foe. I wish ME had read it and used the CotH--it's such a logical outcome of "Graduation Day".
Wordsmith started another fic over a year ago but hasn't updated in a long time. I don't know if she's left fandom permanently but at least the Trilogy is complete.
