George Takei and his longtime partner, Brad Altman, have agreed to live long and prosper together. I am so happy for them and Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi and all the other gays in California who can enjoy the same rights of most Americans. Now for the remaining states.

Date: 2008-09-16 05:02 pm (UTC)The only problem with legalizing Gay Marriage is the Tax and financial issues it brings up. Some Gay couples tend to not be monogamous, especially men and I would bet you that their would be a higher rate of Gay divorce in this country than Heterosexual divorce. I just don't think it is something that the Gay community (even though they want it so much) can handle. They have been living in an "alternate" lifestyle for so long with no true rules to their relationships that this would throw them into a whole new reform completely opposite to the way they are used to living.
For me I would love to marry Stacy and she I but then our financial situation would change drastically. Our taxes would become joint and that means we would end up losing lots of money which we can't afford to do and the laws of community property with your spouse would come into play, her credit and my credit would effect each others life... I think the way it is now is fine for us we have what we need and we love each other, everything else is incidental.

Date: 2008-09-16 06:10 pm (UTC)My friend's son recently announced he was gay and is in love. He is looking forward to one day establishing a family and that might mean he'd like to marry his SO. I get the feeling that this younger generation may be a bit different from their predecessors (or maybe not since males tend to be more promiscuous). Only time will tell when they have that choice.
Eventually it might end up that people (gay or straight) get legal unions in City Hall or someplace and the religious then have a marriage ceremony in a church, temple, synagogue or mosque. Religious gays can then seek out those that allow gay marriages. This way everyone has equal opportunities and no one (priest, rabbi etc.) is coerced into performing gay marriages.
