Orphans of the Storm

Here's a cute story from today's New York Times. It seems that Hurricane Ike struck at the height of the squirrel birthing season in Texas so many young orphaned squirrels are being found and tended by volunteers at the SPCA. I love stories where humans act kindly and responsibly to their fellow creatures - why can't we do that all the time?
BTW I was looking through my links and I noticed that
sajinn, author of one of my favorite fics "Waffle House" and many other classics like "Better Living Through Chemistry" and "The Soft Insanity of Time" hasn't updated since March 27, 2006 when she posted part 104 of "Night of Nights" (with apparently 145 parts planned). Does anyone know what's happening with her?
