I was talking to my cousin who lives in the Boston area the other day and she pronounces my "nom de courriel" as Shaka (as in Zulu) tawny. I pronounce it Sha KAT any as I found it years ago while I was collecting names with "cat" or "kat" in them. One of these days I should write Ursula LeGuin and ask her how she pronounces it as she is the one who created it.
It's sometimes easy to spot the tourist in NYC due to regional pronouncing differences. We have a street that is pronounced Howston even though it's spelled Houston like the Texas city and we pronounce Avenue of the Americas as 6th Avenue *grin*
