Supernatural

I watched "Supernatural" last night because so many fans appear to like it and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Though the boys are attractive (I think Jensen Ackles is almost too pretty) the show is a throwback to shows of my youth like "The Wild, Wild West", "Bonanza", "The Persuaders", "Starsky and Hutch" and others where the cast is all male and the females are dispensible damsels-in-distress (though it now appears that there is a semi-recurring villainess, Meg, on "Supernatural). These shows used to make me feel so left out that I would invent female characters and make up stories where my characters would join the males in their adventures.
The opening sequence in last night's ep had a girl chased by a scarecrow monster which was the kind of scene that inspired Joss Whedon to create Buffy.
ginmar believes there should be more werewolves in movies and TV shows--I think there should be more vampires. In my imagination I pictured Marie (Anne Parillaud) or Janette (Deborah Duchene) or Lillie Langtry (Stacy Haiduk) or Ros Denham (Elizabeth Montgomery) turning the tables on the townsfolk and their monster and sinking her fangs where appropriate. I don't think I'll be watching more of "Supernatural".
