There's a Chinese curse that goes, "May you live in interesting times." I so want to live in uninteresting times. I arrived in Fargo on Wednesday after an uneventful trip. The next morning I heard the Prof exclaiming something about shampoo and airports and thought I'd better get up to find out what was going on. Now I have to worry about the journey home. I travel light with a carry-on suitcase, a shoulder bag and an 8-pocket vest for my wallet, ID, boarding pass, and other things I don't want stolen. I'm pretty sure this time I'll have to check my suitcase which means I'll worry that it'll end up in Pago Pago and I'll be waiting forever at baggage claim.

I hear in England you now have to fly without your laptop, cell phone, iPod, Gameboy or newspaper (book?) which I would consider to be a form of purgatory - stuck on a plane without anything to occupy me for 7 or 8 or more hours and if you're travelling with children without any way of entertaining them (no coloring books?) then you're really in hell. The joke I'm hearing practically everywhere is that soon we'll be travelling on planes naked. I think next year I'll be taking the train *sigh*

Where the heck is Pago Pago lol? :) It's terrible about the planes, but needs must. I don't want to be blown up before I step onto the Queen Mary and get my sticky paws on James. :p I can't imagine doing the flight without a book or music though, OMg it's gonna be hell I don't know about purgatory. :(

LOL. Pago Pago (http://www.pagopago.com/) is in American Samoa. I was just going for the most outlandish place I could think of. I'm hoping by the time I fly home or you fly to the US things will have settled down and they'll let you bring a few items to help you keep your sanity otherwise I think a lot of people will think twice about flying and the amount of passengers will decrease to where they were after 9/11.

I'm not even sure where Samoa is! :) Thanks for the link. I read today that if you buy magazines and drinks airside then you can take them onboard. I'd need to buy a Walkman! :(

Samoa is somewhere in the Pacific.
At least the airlines should give out headphones so one can watch those crummy movies and listen to their canned music for free. The news reports aren't clear - can you take books on board? Are you able to sleep on planes? My aunt could never sleep on planes so when she flew to England from LA she loaded up with Jackie Collins-type pageturners. No books would be like hell.

I'm sick with fear at the thought of flying. I have a height problem as well! Dreamt about it last night agh. Why am I doing this? Oh yeah, want to see James, want to see America, want to see friends...okay then...I can do this *whimpers*

The things we do for love *sigh*. Most of the time on planes you aren't even aware that you're way up as all you see are clouds and even then I'm assuming you don't have a window seat. Are you at least allowed books? When is the trip (I know it's some time in September)?
I'm dreading the new inspections (I need to smuggle chapstick aboard - is that considered lipstick? - as I tend to bite my lips if they're chapped and that starts a vicious cycle. Hate is not a strong enough word for what I feel about those who would hurt people who just want to live their lives in peace.

PS Dolnmoon was asking about you on her lj.

We fly out on the 6th! I think the rules have relaxed slightly and so we're able to take books I think. I'll re-read Brokeback Mountain and The Time Traveller's Wife, my faves.

I didn't see that about Dol, I'm still on dial-up, it's excruciatingly slow. Gotta do the Broadband thing thisarvo which will prolly mean I'll be going offline altogether as I don't know how to set it up. Damn it.

Boy I hope you're allowed books (my idea of hell is existance without good reading material). We're can now bring aboard hard lipsticks - does chapstick count? Because when my lips get chapped I start biting them and it becaomes a vicious cycle.
My friend here in Fargo is also on dial-up and it's wreaking havoc with my looking at icons and manips. But at least I'm online and able to read fics (btw are you able to read stillrose's BtVS sci-fi AU fic called "Breaking Free"? It's terrific and though a WIP she's a prety regular updater.

I do so hope we're allowed books! It's my idea of hell too, no reading material. Re the Spacey Spander, we've already printed off and are reading it now. Daph's just taken it downstairs to read the update. :) Saw the shout out to you sweetie. Kudos. :)

Dial up sux. :(
