Yesterday the  New York Times had an article about a book titled 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die. Curious I googled and found the list here. I skimmed through the list and found I've read about 50 and half of those I had to read for school. Surprisingly it listed books like Sir Henry Rider Haggard's She and Edgar Rice Burrough's Tarzan of the Apes but didn't list Murasaki Shikibu's The Tale of Genji which I believe is possibly the world's first novel. I have no intention of trying to complete the list - life is too short and I have my own little list of books that I would like to read before I die and they are not on that list. See how many of the 1,001 books you've read.

Wednesday night I watched the season finale of "Criminal Minds". The team was in New York City only it wasn't New York City but somewhere in LA. It's always aggravating to a native New Yorker when shows like "Murder She Wrote" and "Cagney and Lacey", purportedly set here, are filmed in LA. The production designers try their best but it really doesn't work :(

For your delectation: if you would like to read a fantastical piece of writing go read The Golem Girl by [profile] ursulav. Keep your eyes open for her books - she's on her way to becoming a major writer and you can all say you knew her way back when.

the season finale of Criminal Minds has me on the edge of my seat... I think the suv that blew up was the one with JJ's boyfriend in it. I mean they can't kill off one of the main characters it just wouldn't be right... =(

I know what you mean about the filming landscape as when they say they are in Pittsburgh PA I know its not as the skyline is all wrong and sometimes if you look the license plates on the cars are wrong.. LOL

Well they certainly turned "Bones" upside down, broke up the NCIS team and Mandy Patankin left earlier so it wouldn't surprise me if one of the regulars was replaced. If I was a terrorist I'd seek my revenge on the woman who shot my comrade so that's my guess. Now we have to wait some 4 months to see what happens next :(

4 months is too long to wait but alas I have no control over these things.

Bones was a super shocker to me as Zack could never ever be a murderer. I hate the way they ended the season and if I didn't just love the other characters I would stop watching. The dynamic will be off for a little while next season but hopefully the replacement will work out fine.

NCIS; I was so shocked that they split the team up but it has to be only temporarily because the way that team fits is the whole dynamic of the show. Poor Abby she will be so upset when she finds out about it.

Criminal Minds; I stand by my first idea that the man killed is JJ's boyfriend they have already shook up the team with Gillian leaving, and brining in the new guy so why keep messing with it, it ain't broke yet.

CSI; not sure if you watch it but OMG if you do the death of Warrick is a major shocker!! first Sarah leaving and now Warrick dead... whose next, Grissom?.

Yeah I sooo dislike what they did with Zack - he was one of my favorite characters :(

With NCIS, I think it's like the season ender a couple of years ago when Gibbs "quit". The season opener will probably deal with how they get back together again.

I rarely watch "CSI" and as it was up against "Supernatural" I missed it. I know the actor who played Warrick is in trouble with the law so maybe that's why they killed him off.

We should "meet" again in 4 months to see who's right. I think my guess makes more sense while yours makes more sense from a TV show perspective.

That's such a silly list! Everybody has different tastes. I've just read Far From The Madding Crowd which is on there, but only because I've seen the film and wanted to clarify a few things. I never quite understood what made all the sheep charge over the cliff initially but it was all the dog's fault! Such a dull book. I was bored silly, but made myself finish it. :( If most of the rest are like that, I shan't bother...

As there are a number of sci-fi books on the list and Sherlock Holmes I was surprised to find that I'd actually read a couple of dozen books on that list of my own volition.

I have a handful of books like The Time Traveller's Wife (which I think you recced) that I'd like to read before I die. The alternative is for everyone to stop writing until I catch up as there's always new stuff I want to read :)

Read The Time Traveller's Wife like now now now! I'm waiting to forget it a bit before reading it again...I read it too much. Can't wait to see the film even if James doesn't have the starring role.

PS. I got my prezzie! I'm over the moon with it. I shall wear the set at the next James con and post pics. My sisters were dead impressed and want to borrow... :D
