Yesterday the  New York Times had an article about a book titled 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die. Curious I googled and found the list here. I skimmed through the list and found I've read about 50 and half of those I had to read for school. Surprisingly it listed books like Sir Henry Rider Haggard's She and Edgar Rice Burrough's Tarzan of the Apes but didn't list Murasaki Shikibu's The Tale of Genji which I believe is possibly the world's first novel. I have no intention of trying to complete the list - life is too short and I have my own little list of books that I would like to read before I die and they are not on that list. See how many of the 1,001 books you've read.

Wednesday night I watched the season finale of "Criminal Minds". The team was in New York City only it wasn't New York City but somewhere in LA. It's always aggravating to a native New Yorker when shows like "Murder She Wrote" and "Cagney and Lacey", purportedly set here, are filmed in LA. The production designers try their best but it really doesn't work :(

For your delectation: if you would like to read a fantastical piece of writing go read The Golem Girl by [profile] ursulav. Keep your eyes open for her books - she's on her way to becoming a major writer and you can all say you knew her way back when.

That's such a silly list! Everybody has different tastes. I've just read Far From The Madding Crowd which is on there, but only because I've seen the film and wanted to clarify a few things. I never quite understood what made all the sheep charge over the cliff initially but it was all the dog's fault! Such a dull book. I was bored silly, but made myself finish it. :( If most of the rest are like that, I shan't bother...

As there are a number of sci-fi books on the list and Sherlock Holmes I was surprised to find that I'd actually read a couple of dozen books on that list of my own volition.

I have a handful of books like The Time Traveller's Wife (which I think you recced) that I'd like to read before I die. The alternative is for everyone to stop writing until I catch up as there's always new stuff I want to read :)

Read The Time Traveller's Wife like now now now! I'm waiting to forget it a bit before reading it again...I read it too much. Can't wait to see the film even if James doesn't have the starring role.

PS. I got my prezzie! I'm over the moon with it. I shall wear the set at the next James con and post pics. My sisters were dead impressed and want to borrow... :D
