shakatany: Sleeping woman plus moon and stars (Shak/Spike)
A few days ago [livejournal.com profile] calic0cat asked at BC if there were any floorplans and stuff regarding Giles' apartment and The Magic Shop for her new fic. Unfortunately I wasn't much help though it was something I was interested in. You'd think with all the trivia about BtVS out there that someone might have posted something especially as in the S2 DVD set there's a section on the blueprints from BtVS. Eventually she found 2 sites that were a bit of help and I thought I'd pass them on:

OMG I just found out that Nan Dibble passed on yesterday. She was the author of one of the most incredible series of BtVS fanfics out there, one I call The Blood Series (don't know if it had an official name). The series begins post-"Showtime" and is S/B oriented. I love these stories because the vampires in them are so not-human. Nan created the most alien vampires that I have encountered in the fandom. The Supplice d'Allegance sequence between Spike and Angel is quite horrifying. There are 4 complete books in the series and a fifth one that I'm afraid will remain forever unfinished. She was an extremely gifted writer who, years ago, also wrote SF under the name Ansen Dibell. I intend to list the series as a Favorite Fic when I get to my few Spuffy recs--I'm sorry I didn't do it in time for her to know but I have complimented her in lj comments and nominated her fics in the past. Read the news here.

I watched "Supernatural" last night because so many fans appear to like it and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Though the boys are attractive (I think Jensen Ackles is almost too pretty) the show is a throwback to shows of my youth like "The Wild, Wild West", "Bonanza", "The Persuaders", "Starsky and Hutch" and others where the cast is all male and the females are dispensible damsels-in-distress (though it now appears that there is a semi-recurring villainess, Meg, on "Supernatural). These shows used to make me feel so left out that I would invent female characters and make up stories where my characters would join the males in their adventures.
The opening sequence in last night's ep had a girl chased by a scarecrow monster which was the kind of scene that inspired Joss Whedon to create Buffy. [livejournal.com profile] ginmar believes there should be more werewolves in movies and TV shows--I think there should be more vampires. In my imagination I pictured Marie (Anne Parillaud) or Janette (Deborah Duchene) or Lillie Langtry (Stacy Haiduk) or Ros Denham (Elizabeth Montgomery) turning the tables on the townsfolk and their monster and sinking her fangs where appropriate. I don't think I'll be watching more of "Supernatural".
